About ME

Dr. Maria Chrysostomou

I’m Dr Maria Chrysostomou, a medical doctor with a genuine passion for caring for people in a way that feels both personal and meaningful. I believe that good healthcare goes beyond diagnosis and treatment — it’s about listening, understanding, and building trust with every patient I see.

My Medical Journey

My journey in medicine began at the University of the Witwatersrand, where I completed a Bachelor of Health Sciences, followed by an Honours degree focused on biomechanics and physiology. I then went on to obtain my Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBCh), which laid the foundation for my clinical practice.

I completed my internship (2 years) and community service (1 year) within the WITS circuit, gaining experience across a wide range of medical fields. During my community service year, I also completed a Diploma in Obstetrics through the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa, which deepened my interest in women’s health.

A Focus on Women’s Health

Today, I practice as a general practitioner, with a special interest in women’s health. I’m passionate about supporting women through all stages of life and hope, over time, to contribute toward more accessible and sustainable healthcare for women on a broader scale.

Beyond the Practice

On a more personal note, my Cypriot and Romanian heritage has shaped who I am in many ways. It’s given me a deep appreciation for family, culture, and connection. Being able to relate to people from different backgrounds — and communicate across languages and perspectives — is something I truly value in my practice.

At the heart of everything I do is a simple belief:
healthcare should feel human, supportive, and centred around you.
